Olivia Lunny embraces a love-hate relationship with LA on ‘City of Angels’.

Having enjoyed a breakthrough 2023 supporting huge stars in Loreen and Ellie Goulding, Olivia Lunny is ready for pop stardom. Her first stop? Los Angeles.

The must-visit location for rising stars and pop music hopefuls, LA is painted a sun-kissed mecca. However, as the 25-year-old discovers, the city has a dark underbelly.

The result is a sultry single that is by far Lunny’s most exciting release to date. Last year’s HEARTBREAK ON REPEAT EP showcased an artist with a knack for an earworm. Now, the singer flips her pen for a confrontational three minutes of realism.

Canadian-born Lunny made the move to LA recently and it’s been a ‘transformative experience’ for the star, who remains very aware of the city’s opportunities and intensity.

Over the three minutes of ‘City of Angels’, she marvels at lavish parties and luxurious homes. “White lines on the table, think I found the devil in the City of Angels,” she muses on her most striking lyrics to date.

It’s a brave release from the singer ahead of a new album in 2025. Having cut her teeth on bubblegum pop and picked up followers through those big support slots, it’s a step away from a comfort zone that shows an artist determined to carve a new sonic world for her project.

Speaking about the track, Lunny said:

“City of Angels is my love letter to LA, but it’s also a reminder that every dream has shadows. I wrote it about chasing big dreams in a city that’s full of lights, where the glitz and glam can easily blur into the darker corners of reality. It’s about finding yourself in the middle of all that chaos and still remembering where you came from.”
