SOAP reach anthemic best on ‘Let’s Start a Cult’.

The devil may work hard, but SOAP sure do work harder. On 'Let's Start a Cult', their eighth single of 2024, the four-piece are recruiting new disciples in anthemic style.

It's been an impressive five years for the band, which was first formed by London bassist Cooper Stout and North East vocalist Ryan Lofthouse in 2019. Joshua Lima was soon recruited on guitar before his brother Noah was officially signed up on drums after joining the group on tour.

A string of singles and headline shows were followed by a blockbuster support slot on the Busted arena tour last year as the group's sound grew and grew in confidence. A rebrand from The Tyne to SOAP came late in 2023 and so far this calendar year has seen a flurry of releases to start the new era with a bang.

There's been live set favourite 'Happy Alone', viral ABBA cover 'SOS', the Charli XCX-inspired 'Modern Heartache' and even an attempt at a TikTok dance trend in 'Get Out Of My House'. The latest of the singles comes in 'Let's Start a Cult'.

A track that sounds written with next month's one-night-only headline show at Camden Assembly in mind, the two-and-a-half-minute flick is relentless in its high tempo rally of, "We can start a cult, we can start a fire, we can rule the world".

A surefire winner for fans who discovered SOAP through a love of Busted, the single is at its most fervent over a drum-heavy bridge that is no doubt aimed to be a highlight of the group's live set. "I'm a non-believer in things I should believe," Ryan jokes before a final chorus.
