Co-written by Nelson and produced by Andy Lawson, Your House offers a captivating blend of indie-pop influences, layering electric guitars, bass, drums, and synths to create an immersive sonic landscape. The track’s inspiration stemmed from a spontaneous recording session with longtime collaborator Dale Shearsmith, weaving themes of longing and self-discovery through the perspective of a young man lost in a dreamlike world just beyond his grasp. Recorded at Debaser in Western Australia, the song retains the raw energy of Nelson’s early demo sessions, with drummer Todd Pickett and bassist Ryan Dux helping to bring the final version to life.

Speaking on the creative direction of the album, Nelson reflects on the unique contrasts between its tracks.

“I wanted to let each song dictate its own direction. In some ways, a song like Your House has no business being on a record with Greenmount Hill, but that was kind of the point. Lyrically, I think a lot of these songs are connected on some deeper level, even if some feel a little more playful on the surface than others.”

Nelson’s music has already garnered widespread attention, with Rolling Stone praising his work as “wonderfully personal, yet inviting.” His 2020 single Hold Your Hair racked up over 400,000 streams on Spotify, and he has enjoyed airplay on major Australian stations such as Triple J, Triple M, and RTRFM. With a potential European tour on the horizon, 2024 is shaping up to be a milestone year for the artist.

Reflecting on the process behind Debaser Tapes, Nelson shares, “The album has been such a journey,” emphasizing that the most rewarding part of any project is “the time you spend with whoever you’re making it with.” Fans can experience Your House and Debaser Tapes available on all major streaming platforms.
